Breast reduction surgery changes much more than the way you look—it transforms the way you feel in your own body. There is no shortage of benefits to enjoy, including:
You don’t have to live with the struggles that come from having overly large breasts. You can change your body and change your life with a breast reduction procedure.
What happens once you request your plastic surgery consultation? Here’s a quick look at your next steps.
You’ll meet privately with your breast reduction surgeon, Dr. Ablavsky, to discuss your goals for your breasts, make sure you are a candidate for breast reduction surgery, and create a custom treatment plan.
Leading up to your breast reduction procedure, you can prepare by:
During breast reduction surgery, Dr. Ablavsky makes the breast smaller and repositions the nipple to create a balanced breast appearance. He removes excess breast tissue, reshapes remaining breast tissue, and lifts and tightens the skin. You will be placed under general anesthesia to keep you comfortable during the 2 to 5 hour outpatient procedure.
Most people need about a week away from daily activities like desk work. You will experience some swelling and tenderness in your breasts, but most people find any discomfort is easily managed with prescription or over-the-counter pain medication.
While you will notice a difference right away, it typically takes about 3 months for most post-surgical swelling to subside. Once you heal completely, you are free to enjoy your new chapter of comfort and confidence.

I was seen by Dr. Mike Ablavsky and was very satisfied with consultation and care that I got. He is very concerned about my well being and how the procedure is going to affect me and that he made sure I am aware of the consequences whether bad or good which gave me more freedom to choose which procedure I wanted, he was very knowledgeable about it. The procedure performed came out very excellent and it gave me more confidence about myself because of the job well done he did. I would love to recommend him 100% to people I know because I know I won't be embarrassed. – V.S.
“Being 4 weeks po-stop my experience with Dr. Ablavsky as my surgeon was very positive. I found him to be a consummate doctor in his field, very attentive, patient, and interested in producing an excellent outcome for my procedure. Besides his skill sets, I found him to be very personable which is a plus for me. I highly recommend Dr. Ablavsky for any plastic surgery procedure. He cares about his patient’s concerns and it shows in his work.” – K.C.

A: It is normal to have some swelling, tenderness, and discomfort after breast reduction. However, Dr. Ablavsky will make sure you are prepared with medication that will keep you comfortable, especially during the initial few days. Most women find the initial discomfort of recovery is well worth the long-term reduction in back and neck pain they enjoy for years to come.
A: It’s best to wait about 6 weeks before resuming intense exercise. You can stay active in the meantime with regular easy, short walks.
A: Barring any major fluctuations in your weight, your breast reduction results should be long-lasting. Many women do experience some droopiness and loss of volume as part of the natural aging process later in life. However, taking excess weight off your chest will help slow gravity’s effects on your breasts over time.
